Georgia Kokkorou-Alevras, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Graduate of the Faculty of History and Archaeology, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and postgraduate student in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the ‘Ludwig-Maximilians Universität’ of Munich (1969-1974: PhD Thesis in Classical Archaeology: Archaische Naxische Plastik). Publication of ten books and editing of ten more, as well as a great number of papers on her main interests: ancient Greek sculpture, iconography, epigraphy, ancient quarries, etc.

Positions in the Greek Archaeological Service of the Greek Ministry of Culture (1979-1980), and professor in the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1980-2012). Head of the Department of Archaeology and History of Art (1995,1996), head of the postgraduate studies (2000-07) and president of Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2007-09). Member of several scholarly societies and since 1985, co-director of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens excavation in the sanctuary of Apollo at Kardamaina (anc. Halasarna) on Kos.
