Το πλίνθινο τείχος της Δύμης

Abstract

Το τείχος της Δύμης ήταν πλίνθινο και περίκλειε μεγάλου εμβαδού οικιστικό χώρο παρέχοντας ασφάλεια στους κατοίκους της. Για τον σχεδιασμό και την εκτέλεση του πολυδάπανου δημόσιου έργου μήκους περίπου 4.900 μ., καθοριστικοί παράγοντες αποτέλεσαν η γεωγραφική θέση, η οικονομική κατάσταση, η πολιτική βούληση αλλά και η ενεργή στάση που επέλεξε η πόλη απέναντι στις ιστορικές συγκύριες, όπως προκύπτει από την επισκόπηση και σύνθεση γεγονότων και μαρτυριών. Η ανοικοδόμησή του προσδιορίζεται στις αρχές της πρώιμης ελληνιστικής εποχής. Κατασκευαστικά το τείχος εμφανίζει αυτοτελή τμήματα που επιτρέπουν την αυτόνομη λειτουργία, προσαρμογή και αρμονική ένταξή του στο φυσικό ανάγλυφο. Ο κορμός του αποτελείται εξ ολοκλήρου από ωμοπλίνθους, το κατεξοχήν δομικό υλικό της περιοχής και τη βάση του επενδύει λίθινο, κτιστό μέτωπο το οποίο στην καθ΄ύψος ανοικοδόμηση καλύπτεται με την ωμοπλινθοδομή σε οργανική σύνδεση. Η συνολική θεώρηση του αναπτύγματος της οχύρωσης διέρχεται από τα 16 σημεία που αποκαλύφθηκαν τμήματα και δομικά στοιχεία της οχύρωσης τα οποία αποτελούν σταθερά σημεία αναφοράς ενός ενιαίου μνημειακού συνόλου. Η παρουσίαση των τυπολογικών, κατασκευαστικών και μορφολογικών χαρακτηριστικών των κύριων και των πρόσθετων στοιχείων του τείχους που αποκαλύφθηκαν αποτελεί πολύτιμη πηγή πληροφοριών για τη μελέτη της αμυντικής αρχιτεκτονικής. Η καλή κατάσταση διατήρησης ορισμένων τμημάτων του μνημείου το καθιστά ξεχωριστό, όχι μόνο για την περιοχή αλλά και μεταξύ των μέχρι σήμερα γνωστών οχυρωματικών καταλοίπων του συγκεκριμένου συστήματος τείχισης των αρχαίων πόλεων.
